Lyft Diaries: “Come Clubbing With Us!”

Saturday night and I’m mentally prepared to pick up all sorts of people on the weekends in San Francisco and usually people are pretty well behaved and friendly. Especially when I have Taylor Swift’s 1989 CD on replay for some moral support.

I waited more than 5 minutes to pick up my passenger Jimmy and his friend. I wasn’t necessarily happy about waiting. I usually have a wait time of less than 5 minutes but since I already had driven out so far to pick them up, might as well wait a few more minutes. I called them to see where they were, they said they were coming down, so I waited about 3 more minutes. I brushed it off when they apologized and got into the car.

“To Temple SF please.” Temple SF is a popular nightclub in San Francisco and they have multiple rooms playing house music, dance music and hip hop.

“Sure no problem. Want some music to help you guys pregame to the club?”

“Yea!! Whatever music you want, you know what’s up!”

Whatever music I want? I thought, “Ok.” The music I want is literally my Taylor Swift 1989 CD which has been in my car disk player and haven’t left since it came out in October 2014. I put it on replay whenever I drive Lyft because it suits any time of the day and I love most of her songs. It saves me the unorganized feeling in the car to change songs I don’t like on the radio or other music apps and I know exactly what song in Taylor’s album to suit people in the car depending their mood. (Of course, not all people know Taylor her songs or it makes them have a stoic face or you can tell they are uncomfortable from my singing)

“Ok, how about…Taylor Swift!!?” I said as I turn the volume up on the song Blank Space.

“OMG! I love Taylor swift!” One of them said as he was singing to every lyric.

“She’s amazing and hot!” The other one said as he is singing to every lyric incorrectly with enthusiasm and energy.

At one point we were going through all of Taylor’s songs and singing at the top of our lungs until we get close to Temple SF.

“You are so cool, you should come with us to temple sf!”

I haven’t been out in a long time and I did have the urge yesterday of going out and why not!? But at the same time, I barely started to Lyft tonight and wanted to make my daily goal….the devil’s advocate in me was trying to convince myself to go with them and have fun instead of work.

“Fine fine. If I can find parking right IN FRONT of Temple SF, then I’ll go.” Having been to the club a couple times before, I knew it would be impossible because it’s always busy and parking is extremely rare.

“We’ll buy you your drinks and we have a +1 in our rsvp.”

Since I knew they were nice and they were going to take care of me in terms of entrance fees and drinks, I was half way convinced.

As I was pulling up on Howard close to the club, one of the guys was eager to find me a parking spot while in my head I was knew there wouldn’t be any.

AAAAND of course, there’s a parking spot right in front and it’s free. I’m a woman of my word and so I went to park there while I was shouting, “Oh no, does that mean I really have to go!?”

I was excited, got in line with them underdressed with my vans on and met Jimmy and Curtis’s, the other passenger, friends. They were girls and they were looking at me like, “Who is this girl you brought with you and what is she doing with us?”

“This is Queeny, our Lyft driver!”

It was confusing for them and also exciting for them that a Lyft driver is willing to go out and party.

Yup. I went out clubbing with my passengers and out of that I didn’t make my daily income goal but I sure did make some great friends. I made friends with Jimmy and Curtis as well as their girlfriends and we actually hung out a week after the club, so four new friends (official on Facebook)and each of them left a lovely comment on my page letting me know how fun it was and that I was the best Lyft ride they ever had!

What a nice comment. =)

Thank you for reading,
