“We need to address these to the executives and core team.”
“OH! I”ll do it. I have my calligraphy pens in my purse.”
“Um. Sure. Why do you have a box of calligraphy pens in your purse so conveniently?”
I started a new job about two months ago and it’s an internship which means it’s not a guaranteed spot in the company and it’s about gaining all the experience that you can and jumping through all windows of opportunity. My company is an event marketing company and we plan huge conferences from start to finish. From registration to the design of the conference to housing to meals, etc. It’s like planning a great party but for 2,000-30,000 people. Here in the Bay Area, we focus on tech companies. In my team, we were assigned to take care of the VIPs by managing their gift room drops to their hotel rooms, their access wristbands for keynote presentations, making sure they get the best seat at concerts, and giving them letters of thank you’s and appreciation. My lead was talking out loud and said that one of the task was to write the names of the executives of this company onto the envelopes that we had purchases. Blank and white envelopes means a perfect fresh canvas for me. You should have seen me, i volunteered like I was bidding for gold. I couldn’t offer my ink to paper any sooner. My colleagues thought that I would just write their names with a ball point pen not knowing that I would bust out a pen kit! Gotcha!
I handwritten about 100 envelopes addressing them to the names of top executives. It was great fun and good practice. I tried different fonts and different sizes and it helped me in getting comfortable with how the pen moves and how much pressure to apply to the paper. The hardest part was to keep a consistent font throughout the name. I received some great compliments and writing those envelopes gave me great pleasure. It felt good knowing a crowd of people will see my handwriting, but most importantly I just love the art!
Let me know what you think!
