Destination Sweden is Near the End

Today is Sweden’s National day and everyone gets a day off! I went to Fridhemsplan today with my two friends and I was surprised to see so many Swedes sun bathing in their swim wear on the grass in front of the lakes near with the view of the center of Stockholm. Many sail boats were cruising, many children were covered in spots of sun lotion, Swedes are talking and laughing and the city was looking more beautiful than I have ever seen.

It’s almost to an end and almost to 10 months here in Sweden. My last class will end this Friday, my last visitors will come this weekend, my last trip was last week to Oslo, Norway, my last decisions will be one of the most important ones. I’ve created my own life here in Sweden and even though I don’t like the big city so much as I like the little ones, I like the landscape and my independent life here. I’m leaving on June 23, simply flying and leaving everything just like that. If I could, I would stay here and finish my degree and learn to speak more Swedish, but this exchange had its time limit and I knew it from the beginning. I’m leaving behind lessons that I have yet learned from, a boyfriend that seems like a perfect long distance relationship headache and friends that I don’t know how I will keep. Independence and freedom is the next factor in keeping me from going home to California. I don’t feel that I’m ready to go home to my reality, my working and going to school reality.

On the good side, the reason I’m not staying to the end of August and before the Fall 2012 semester is because I got into the Arabic Program (SLI Program) at my school for a year. I received a $5000 scholarship to learn Arabic at school in the summer while living in the school dorms, take online courses throughout the year and go to Jordan next summer for two months.

Therefore, Destination Summer 2012: Jordan
