Just recently in Germany, a new set of stowed away fairy tales has been discovered. I was really excited when I read an article from The Guardian, Five hundred new fairytales discovered in Germany. A Bavarian historian named Franz Xaver von Schönwerth (1810–1886) collected folk tales of myths, legends, and fairy tales from what had been passed on by word of mouth from the local people in the Bavarian region of Oberpfalz generation after generation. Von Schönwerth gathered all the stories and published three volumes in 1857, 1858, and 1859, but it wasn’t so much of a crowd pleaser during that time period.
These stories are not only for young children, to give them a little life lesson in a fairy tale, they are also for young adults to lead them to the path of adulthood.
When I was a child I never had the experience of my mom reading stories to me during the night. “Did you get an A on your homework? Did you do your homework?” She would say, but nothing close to reading magical legends and stories! When I was on one of those highland trips in Scotland, the tour guide was amazing at telling old fairy fold tales during the road trip and I felt a childhood memory I never had!
Stories simply bring people together. The art of creating a catchy plot luring the audience into wanting more after the “The End” makes me understand why little kids ask parents to read a story or play a movie over and over again.
Can a German speaking person send me one of the discovered poems with translation?
